Culture Night Event And Breeding Waders Walk in Blacklion

Great evening at the Market House, Blacklion

Knitted Birds nests to create awareness the vanishing native wading bird population.

The nests were created in collaboration with the Blacklion crochet Group - using natural wool sourced in Northern Ireland - these nests can be used in the wild to create awareness of the disappearing Wading Birds, under threat from preditors, farming and Climate change.

We heard the sounds from many of the Wetland Native Bird species.

The Wading Birds that are under threat:
 RedShank
Golden Bubber (produce 4 eggs as is most common for Wading birds)
Oystercatcher (produce 3 eggs)
Redneck phalarope
Laywing (just 800 left in the country - the most of all the species list here)
Curley (very low numbers - 8 pairs)
Dunlins

What are the causes of their loss -
Intensive Farming

Great to hear the differences between all the birdsong.
