Great evening at the Market House, Blacklion Knitted Birds nests to create awareness the vanishing native wading bird population. The nests were created in collaboration with the Blacklion crochet Group - using natural wool sourced in Northern Ireland - these nests can be used in the wild to create awareness of the disappearing Wading Birds, under threat from preditors, farming and Climate change. Wetlands in Ireland have declined by 90% since the 1700s, 35% since the 1970s. Wetlands support vital biodiversity, carbon storage, and flood protection, crucial ecosystems with a vast range of native plant and animal species. This public art project builds awareness of Wetlands through community and expert engagement, biodiversity, a celebration of local tradition, myth, culture, coming together & utilising cameraless photographic techniques.
